Venus Williams, came into the match, knowing that she had to play a higher level, because Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, took a set in their previous encounter.

Day 5; Biggest upset so far

1st seed, and recent Roland Garros champion, Ana Ivanovic, was thrown out by Jie Zheng in 2 short sets, 6-1 6-4 in 1h10.

This loss was a logical ten-dense for Ana Ivanovic, by barely scrapping through in the previous round against Nathalie Dechy.

Whether it’s because the wind, low level, you were warned the previous match that you needed to work out harder for the next match, because the ball can’t always fall in your preference.

More details to follow later.

Day 5; Serena Williams blasts Mauresmo out 7-6 6-1

Serena Williams, started the match well by leading winning 8 of the 9 first points. She obtained a 3-0 lead a few minutes later.

Amelie Mauresmo, finally started to some things right, by breaking back and holding serve to decrease the lead to 3-2. Next after a few games, she was able to level the math at 6-games-all.

A tiebreak, with many exciting net points, concluded Serena Williams as the winner, 7-5.

In the second set, Serena Williams was playing better and making less errors, Amelie Mauresmo, got some treatment on her thigh, but It couldn’t help much. Serena Williams increased her lead to 5-0.

Amelie Mauresmo, was able to get 1 game on the scoreboard, by breaking Williams back. Serena broke back to win the second set and match, to move into the 4th round.

Day 4; Venus, again, struggles through 7-5 6-2

Venus Williams, the defending champion, and 7th seed at Wimbledon 2008, seen tossing on the left, really needed to toss herself in form today, to obtain a win against Anna Keothavong.

The match started well for Venus Williams, by gaining a 2-0 lead. She then lost her focus to lose 3-games-in-a-row, and eventually was lucky that she could use her experience to her own advantage, by eventually taking the set by 7-5.

In the second set, Venus Williams, obtained her focus and drive again, she was soon leading in the set and not losing the grip, to eventually take the set by 6-2. Venus Williams needed exactly 1h45min to obtain her 3rd round ticket, by defeating Anna Keothavong 7-5 6-2.

Next Venus Williams will face Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, a Spanish qualifier, whom already has 5 matches under her belt at Wimbledon so far. She has reached the 3rd round for the first time in a grand slam. She has never passed the 1st round in 7 grand slam entries.

Day 3; Serena struggles through 6-4 6-4

The sixth seed, Miss Serena Williams, didn’t have it easy today against Urszula Radwanska. She was constant leading, but yet, she always managed to lose her margin during the first set.

Eventually she pulled through 6-4, and went on to win the second set by 6-4. I was kinda nervous, because of the fact that she was playing her 2nd Round on the Court #2.

Luckily Serena Williamswas prepared and ready to win this 2nd round match to advance into the 3rd round.

Next she will play Amelie Mauresmo, which i suspect to be a straight set win. Ok, Amelie Mauresmomight have some suprises, but that was in the past, right now, she isn’t even playing with a Top-10-level. Which she clearly needs to challenge Serena Williams on grass, especially at Wimbledon.

This match will be played Friday, probably the 1st/2nd match on Centre Court.

I predict Serena Williams to win by 6-4 6-2.

Day 3; Ana I-can’t-close-out-the-match-vic

Serbia almost lost their 2 greatest players at the same time, Ana Ivanovic played a horrible match. Nathalie Dechy on the otherhand, was showing the tennis, she’s able to produce. By taking a 7-6 5-4 lead, and yes, capturing 2 match points.

Ana Ivanovic barely made it to the 3rd round, but her guardian angel helped her get rid of the second match point, by dropping the ball a few inches over the other side of the net.

She then went on to win that second set in a tiebreaker, and then went on to obtain a lead of 5-3. We all thought she would serve it out. Think again, she was serving for the match, at; 5-3, 5-4, 6-5 and 8-7, eventually she finished the third set at 10-8.

The picture on here shows the reactions we saw about 100 times during this 3h24-hours-lasting-torture-match.

I’m glad she passed through, so we can still have some nice matches, when Serena Williams and Venus Williams aren’t playing ;-)

Day 1; Serena Williams powers through 7-5 6-3

The first one of my favorites to move onto the next round was Serena Williams.

Serena Williams just like Roger Federer came on court with a stylish, yet traditional and serene outfit.

Serena Williams wore a long-belted-rain-trench-coat. Under that coat she had a dress with several layers and a partially pleated skirt. (The top and skirt are sold for $55 each).

Serena Williams overcame her struggles at the end of the 1st set, by breaking Kaia Kanepito capture the first set by 7-5. In the second set Serena was powering and timing her strokes a lot better, each game she increased her game a bit. Eventually Kaia Kanepi was no match in the second set anymore. Game, Set and Match, Serena Williams won by 7-5 6-3.

 YTD Statistics

Serena Williamswill go into Wimbledon seeded as 6th, with 3 titles under her belt, and a win-loss of 25-3 [89%]. Giving the fact that she lost early at RG, she had enough time to regroup, train and relax, to be in great shape for her Wimbledon campaign. The tournament that she loves a lot, and feels like home.

Kaia Kanepi will go into Wimbledon, with her current career best ranking at 36, she didn’t win any WTA titles yet, but has obtained a 26-14 record [65%]. She reached the QF at RG this year, her furthest reach in a singles tournament this year, was in Acapulco, where she lost to Flavia Pennetta in the Semis.

Kaia’s Wimbledon Profile
2006 R128, 2007 R64

Match Outcome

If we look at it logical, this could be a very easy match for Serena Williams, giving the fact that grass accentuates her super abilities even more. Although we need to take in consider that Kaia Kanepi has grown a lot the past year, and could be a threat, if she can take away Serena’s rhythym. Anyway I don’t see that happening, she could give a hard first or second set, but Serena will overpower her on all aspects of the game, resulting in a straight sets win.

My prediction

Serena Williams d. Kaia Kanepi 63 61
