Nokia 5800 XM Launched !

Nokia, launched their mid-class iPhone killer, today, at the Nokia Remix event held in London.

Nokia 5800 will be ranged in the XpressMusic category, and will be Nokia first touchscreen smartphone since a few years. They’ve launched one a few years ago, but it failed to reach everyone.

After a few months of working, they got it right, the 5800. Besides multitouch, the 5800 has the advantage on the iPhone all the way. Some features are;

* 3,2 MP Carl Zeiss + Dual Flash + VGA recording 30fps + front video conferencing camera
* MicroSDHC card slot (8GB microSDHC card included) [up to 32GB]
* nHD / 3,2 inch 16million color screen / [640x360]
* High performance GPS with Turn2Turn navigation
* Symbian OS 9.5 5th edition [Tacco]
* Input via fingers, stylus or plectrum
* 3G HSPDA

You see, all these functions beat the iPhone, but then we might think, what the hell, this thing would cost. Guess again, it’s mid-class ranged, which means it’ll have the affordable price tag of €279, before taxes.

The XM 5800 WITHOUT ‘comes with music’ is set to be launched between 8 – 21 October in the UK. Other European countries will follow in November-December.

The XM 5800 WITH ‘Comes with music’ is set to be launched early next year.

1R: Serena Williams vs Kaia Kanepi

Monday 23rd of June, 1st match on Court 1, at 01:00 PM (GMT)

Head To Head: Serena Williams leads 1-0

Sony Ericsson Open, Miami 2008
R16, Serena Williams d. Kaia Kanepi 63 63

 YTD Statistics

 Serena Williamswill go into Wimbledon seeded as 6th, with 3 titles under her belt, and a win-loss of 25-3 [89%]. Giving the fact that she lost early at RG, she had enough time to regroup, train and relax, to be in great shape for her Wimbledon campaign. The tournament that she loves a lot, and feels like home.

Kaia Kanepi will go into Wimbledon, with her current career best ranking at 36, she didn’t win any WTA titles yet, but has obtained a 26-14 record [65%]. She reached the QF at RG this year, her furthest reach in a singles tournament this year, was in Acapulco, where she lost to Flavia Pennetta in the Semis.

Career Grass Statistics

 Serena Williams has collected a 39-7 [85%] win-loss record on the surface grass, during her 12 years as a pro. 37-6 is the record she has established so far at Wimbledon. She has reached the final 3 times in a row, losing just 1 to Maria Sharapova in 2004. Other players she lost to were; Virgina Ruano Pascual, Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams, Jill Craybas and Justine Henin.

1998 R322000 SF2001 QF2002 W
2003 W2004 F2005 R322007 QF

Kaia Kanepi has collected a 3-5 [38%] win-loss record on the surface grass, during her 7 years as a pro. 1-2 is the record she has established so far at Wimbledon. Last year was her best performance so far in any grass tournament, by reaching the 2nd round, where she lost to Shahar Peer.

2006 R128, 2007 R64

Match Outcome

If we look at it logical, this could be a very easy match for Serena Williams, giving the fact that grass accentuates her super abilities even more. Although we need to take in consider that Kaia Kanepi has grown a lot the past year, and could be a threat, if she can take away Serena’s rhythym. Anyway I don’t see that happening, she could give a hard first or second set, but Serena will overpower her on all aspects of the game, resulting in a straight sets win.

My prediction

Serena Williams d. Kaia Kanepi 63 61

Serena Williams for Wimbledon 2008 !

You guys might already have suspected that I’m clearly always routing for Serena Williams. As a huge fan I’m clearly devoted to Serena Williams and, yes, I do combine reality with being a huge fan, as any other fan should be able to do so. So why am I routing so much for her? Well she was the best player out of the last generation, sorry Justine Henin, but you weren’t. With a Wimbledon title under your belt, you would have been.

Serena Williams is one of those players that has won almost everything she entered, the only thing that still misses her already stunning palmares, is the Olympics. Which, no worries, she’ll win this year. If not, she’ll have another chance in London 2012. Which she and her sister will participate in !

What are the other reasons, for me, to rout her into the final?

Well we all know the outstanding performances that Serena brought us on grass. It’s the surface where all her strokes and serves come into a good end, and where she really feels at home, like at the Key Biscayne (Miami – SE Open).

If we look at Serena’s grass record, it is currently 39-7, which is the 6th best of all time. With a win this year, she would have the 3rd best all time grass record. Given those facts, Serena Williams is by far the most in form player this year and has had the most solid performances at Wimbledon of all the top 8 seeds at Wimbledon 2008. (of course, Venus has been more solid at Wimbledon).

Serena’s possible path to the 1st GS win of 2008;

1R   Kaia Kanepi
2R   Urszula Radwanska
3R   Amelie Mauresmo
4R   Marion Bartoli
QF   Svetlana Kuznetsova
SF   Ana Ivanovic
F     Venus Williams

Head to Head with the possible encounters (all surfaces);

[01-00] SW d. KK 63 63 at R16, Miami 2008
[01-00] SW vs UR [no encounters yet]
[10-02] SW vs AM 46 60 26 at R16, US Open 2006
[12-02] SW d. MB 63 64 at R16, US Open 2007
[16-03] SW d. SK 36 75 63 at SF, Miami 2008
[17-03] SW d. AI 62 64 at R32, US Open 2006
[25-10] SW d. VW 36 63 76(4) at SF, Bangalore 2008

So with all the encounters, we can conclude that Serena has the 25-10 edge, which results in a 71% ratio. So we can say, If Serena Will get this path, she has 71% chance to win Wimbledon.

If she faces Venus Williams in the final of Wimbledon, she has the 2-1 (67%) edge in win-loss against her Sister and a 2-0 (100%) edge in winning the final against her sister at Wimbledon.

You can expect a youtube highlight video of each match that I was able to record, and detailed statistics after every match.

Wimbledon 2008 (The men’s side)

Wimbledon 2007 on the men’s side was mainly only about Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The two eventually ended up in the Final and Roger Federer prevailed narrowly to an inspired Rafael Nadal, someone who pushed him for the 1st time on grass. The match was really one of the best men’s final I’ve seen in a while. It had drama, beautiful volleys and a rivalry that hasn’t been seen since a long time. And to tell you honestly, who would have expected to see Nadal, a typical clay-courter, to play so well on a very fast and skiddy grass-court? At least I didn’t.

Roger Federer won Wimbledon for the 5th time in a row and defeated Nadal for the 2nd straight time in a Wimbledon final. Roger Federer entered Wimbledon 9 times, and winning 5 times. During those 9 appearances, Federer has compiled a 39-4 win-loss record (91%).

The question this year is, will he be able to win the 6th time? Will he be able to hold off Nadal one more time? Critics are saying Federer is more off than on lately, which I need to agree on. Also we’ve noticed that Nadal can really play well on grass, he’s improving each year! In the past 4 years Nadal reached the Final 2 times and compiled a 14-5 win-loss record (74%).

 The one I’m absolutely routing for is Novak Djokovic, he has proved so much this year. He’s a force everyone on the ATP tour should watch out for. He might not be the strongest of them all, physique-wise, but he has improved a lot the past 12 months, and I feel that he can do even better, if he works even harder. Last year we’ve seen him retire against Nadal in the Semi Final.

Now that he’s fitter, stronger and won his first grand slam at the Australian Open, will he be able to push Federer or Nadal aside, and claim the Wimbledon crown? It all comes down to how fit he is, and how long his matches last. If he can speed through the tournament like he did at the Australian Open 2008, he has a fair chance to obtain his 2nd grand slam this year. In the past 3 appearances at Wimbledon, Djokovic compiled a 10-3 win-loss record (76%).

Someone I’m also routing for to do a good run is Simone Bolelli, an Italian tennis player, ranked 47th in the world. Although he isn’t as good as he can be yet, I do think he should be able to reach the 4th round or even the quarters.

It all depends whether he uses his backhand and volleying to his advantage. We all know that rallying on a grass court doesn’t play in your advantage.

He needs to get his strong serves in and rush to the net whenever their is an opportunity. If he manages to do this I think he’ll reach the 4th round or more. Although I’m a realistic fan, I consider his not so great grass court record, but we know in tennis, strange things can suddenly happen, if you believe in yourself.

Forza Simo !
