Maria Sharapova out of US Open

It was already quite uncertain whether Sharapova would be abble to play at the Us Open, because of a shoulder injury. Yesterday the news got confirmed on her website. There’s also uncertainty about when she’ll return to the tenniscourts again, let’s hope, it won’t take too long.

Going back to a first-round exit at the 2003 Australian Open in her very first Grand Slam tournament, Maria Sharapova never has missed one of tennis’ major championships.

She will now.

Sharapova is skipping the U.S. Open because of a torn rotator cuff tendon in her right shoulder, the same injury that is forcing her to sit out the Beijing Olympics.

The three-time Grand Slam title winner said in a posting on her Web site Friday she probably won’t need surgery and could be ready to play in two to three months.

“It hurts me so much to miss the Olympics and the U.S. Open, you have no idea,” she said. “Just to type those words hurt!!”

In a sport that often sees top players sidelined by injury, the No. 3-ranked Sharapova has played in each of the past 23 major tournaments, winning championships at Wimbledon in 2004, the U.S. Open in 2006 and the Australian Open in January.

She would have been counted among the main contenders at this year’s U.S. Open, which begins in New York on Aug. 25.

But a doctor who looked at tests on her shoulder from April and this week told Sharapova she has been playing with that tendon tear in her shoulder since the spring.

“He actually couldn’t believe that I’ve been playing this long with this injury. You can imagine that I was not very thrilled to hear that my medical team did not see this tear in my shoulder back in April,” she said. “The good news is that it didn’t get much worse since April, but we could have started the healing time back then instead of now.”

Sharapova will go to Arizona to work with a specialist for rehab and strength work.

“Now I need to move forward and stay positive,” she said. “I am going to work hard to get healthy.”

Sharapova is 32-4 with three titles in 2008, and she briefly was ranked No. 1. The 21-year-old Russian has become one of tennis’ biggest stars, with millions of dollars in endorsement deals.

She pulled out of a tournament in Montreal because of the shoulder on Wednesday night—after winning a nearly three-hour match in which she double-faulted 17 times. Sharapova then had a series of tests on her shoulder and said Thursday she wouldn’t compete in Beijing.

“Once I’m healthy, I’m sure I’ll look at this as a blessing in disguise,” she said Friday. “Right now it’s a bit painful, of course, but every athlete goes through these patches and I’m just grateful that this isn’t as bad as it could have been.”

Maria Sharapova withdraws from the Olympic Games

Sad news, partially good news for the Williams fans, including me. Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the olympics, caused by an injury. More details below;

World number three Maria Sharapova pulled out of the Beijing Olympics on Thursday after an MRI scan on her right shoulder revealed two small tears.

I’m currently packing up really quick to hop on the plane and head to New York for a second opinion but I wanted to let all of you know first that there’s no chance of me competing in Beijing” Sharapova said on her website.

The timing is so unfortunate and this makes me more sad than anything” she added on www.mariasharapova.com. The Olympic Games are scheduled for August 8-24.

After taking a few different exams and MRIs this morning, the doctors found two small tears in the tendons of my shoulder.

Maria Sharapova hopes to get healed by the Us Open, which debutes the 25th of August, however it’s still uncertain if she can get ready by then. She’ll be stopping by her physician, Dr David Alchek, whom will provide a second opinion, on how long she needs to take off.

More news, will be placed when released.

Day 4; Maria Sharapova crashing out 2-6 4-6

Maria Sharapova, crashed out of Wimbledon by losing to Alla Kudryavtseva 2-6 4-6, in 1h24 in her 2nd Round. It’s the first time in her carreer that she has lost before the 4th Round at Wimbledon. In fact Maria Sharapova hasn’t lost in a 2nd Round at any Grand Slam since 2003.

Right from the beginning, Maria Sharapova was struggling with her serve and shots. While Alla Kudryavtseva was playing clean and hardly making errors. (12 to 30). In fact, Sharapova gave 30 (43%) free points to Alla Kudryavtseva, that she needed to win this match.

Alla Kudryavtseva will next face Peng Shuai from China.

Day 2; Fashion Statements at Wimbledon

This year Wimbledon is doing better fashion-wize, compared to last year. The previous winners are wearing very stylish outfits, it seems that they moved from grass-couture to haute-couture.

My top 4 favorite outfits at Wimbledon;

The Wimbledon 3 (Women’s side);

Serena Williams, will by most be thought of as the main contender at Wimbledon this year. She has proved everyone that she’s back to where she was in 2003, still not peaking at 80% yet, she has a big chance to win Wimbledon this year.

This year she had a fantastic run so far, even though she lost in the quarter final to Jankovic at the Australian Open. She bounced back with 3 consecutive titles; Wta Bangalore, Wta SonyEricsson Open & Wta Charleston.

The most impressive tournament was the SonyEricsson Open. Where she stripped down many good players en route to the final, almost giving Justine Henin a double baggel, 62 60. The next two matches, however weren’t that comfortable, giving her the title in 3 sets. With this title she equaled graff’s record at the SonyEricsson Open with 5 titles.

Venus Williams, with 4 Wimbledon titles under her belt she’s one of the biggest contenders for Wimbledon this year. Although her win will probably depend on her level and on the contestants. Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova will definitely do anything they can to reach to the Rosewater Dish Plate.

This year hasn’t been the best for her so far, with poor showings at some tournaments. But anybody knows that Venus can always turn things around in Wimbledon, and she did it almost every time. You can compare her to a phoenix, ready to rise up and get back into 6th gear.

Maria Sharpova, the teenager that made her dreams coming through by winning a grandslam, in her 7th grand slam. Many thought it was just one timer. But ever since she tasted the success of winning a grand slam, she hasn’t stopped with the good results. She went on winning the 2004 YEC and 2 more grandslams, the US open and Australian Open (earlier this year). She has proven herself as a worthy top 3 player and will spend there many time, if she doesn’t get injuries like she had last year. If she wants to win Wimbledon this year, she will need to be at 150%, if she’s less, I don’t see her having much of a chance against the butchering game of Serena and Venus. As always Maria is up for suprises all the time.

Either one of these 3 will win Wimbledon this year. ;-)
