2009 Elena Dementieva d. Serena Williams 6-3 6-1

Not much to say about this match, clearly showed Serena felt more like heading to Melbourne and having some extra rest, so she really didn’t put up a huge fight, but anyway it’s a wise decission and it will certainly pay off at the AO2009, and a SF result is not that bad :)

RESULT : SF Elena Dementieva d. (1) Serena Williams 63 61

Serena’s into the final !

Serena Williams defeated the wind and Dinara Safina in the semis to rush into the finals, where she’ll face Jelena Jankovic.

The match could have been better if the wind didn’t show up, but either way, Serena won !

The final is delayed till sunday because of the severe weather caused by a tropical storm ^^’

Day 9; Serena demolishes 6-4 6-0

Serena Williams, promised us all to start peaking in the after she won her match last friday. She held that promise by peaking yesterday and sizzling today.

Serena Williams, took an early break, but Agniezska Radwanska broke back. Serena Williams saw no danger and continued with booming serves and playing aggressive and smart at the same time. She took the opening set by 6-4 in 32 minutes.

Serena Williams didn’t cut slack to Agniezska Radwanska, by switching a few gears higher, to completely blow Agniezska Radwanska away on all assets.

If it wasn’t by rocket serves, it was by strokes on both wings, or crisp volleys.

Serena Williams easily won the second set by 6-0 in 21 minutes. Ending the match 6-4 6-0 in 51 minutes.

Serena Williams stats;

  • 11 aces
  • 76% 1st serves in, 84% points won on 1st serve
  • 29 winners to 6 errors

Next up, Serena Williams will face Jie Zheng, the Chinese player that ousted Ana Ivanovic.

Day 9; Venus Williams halts Tanasugarn 6-4 6-3

Venus Williams was challenged by Tamarine Tanasugarn, a Thai veteran, that really deserves a big applause for her Wimbledon run.

Venus Williams was comfortable most of the match, just when closing out both sets, Tamarine Tanasugarn refused to go out easy, by forcing Venus to play her very best on the crucial points.

Venus Williams won when Tamarine Tanasugarn wasn’t able to return a powerful stroke, by hitting it into the net, to end the set and match by 6-4 6-3 in 1h35.

Next Venus Williams will face Elena Dementieva.

Elena Dementieva will need to play well, playing like she did today will get her crushed within 1 hour. Venus to win in straight sets, once again.
